Supermarket Frozen Pizza Express Review Lisa Valentine Blog

When it comes to socialising, I’m an introvert and, although I love my friends and family dearly, I need to time alone to recharge, possibly more than most. Instead of feeling bored or lonely, I find great comfort in solitude and try to make time for myself on a regular basis.

Here are a few of my solo night in essentials:

Reading is my jam. Ever since I was little, I’ve loved to read and have a bookshelf that’s bursting at the seams (I just cannot make the shift from good old fashioned paper books over to digital, no matter how hard I try.) The content changes regularly, from fiction and biographies to true crime and romance, but spending a few hours getting utterly lost in a book is my favourite indulgence.

Who doesn’t love pizza? (If this is you, please leave immediately and never return). When me and the kids visited Italy in 2014, we ate pizza every single day – that’s not even an exaggeration. When Pizza Express kindly sent me a selection of Romana pizzas* to try out, it was the ideal excuse to arrange a little pizza party for one. It also meant that I could enjoy decent pizza without having to leave the house or even have to deal with a delivery person – an introvert’s dream right there.

There’s nothing more freeing than having an unbridled singalong at the top of your lungs without anyone else about to judge you (bar the neighbours perhaps, depending on how thick your walls are). Create a Spotify playlist filled with whatever floats your boat and go for it.

Face Mask

I discovered this facemask by reading Tan France’s book, Naturally Tan. He shares a cheap and easy homemade recipe that he swears by and I am converted. It leaves my skin feeling fresher and softer than any chemical-laden beauty product. Simply mix natural greek yoghurt with green tea (stew a bag in hot water for a few minutes then mix the contents of the bag with the yoghurt). Apply to the face and leave for about ten minutes before rinsing off.

Oscar, my eldest cat, is my wingman – and the size of a small dog. He’s been by my side through thick and thin and is always up for a party. Well, the kind of party where we sit on the sofa and ignore each other at least. Lex is the baby of our family, being rescued at just three-weeks old and loves nothing more than cuddling. There’s something wonderfully comforting about the sound of a cat purring on your lap, don’t you think?
