Gin has seen a huge surge in popularity in the past few years, with many people opting for a G&T over any other tipple, and I’m no exception. Before discovering the delights of juniper, I was a loyal ‘spiced rum and ginger’ kind of girl so when I noticed that Belfast-based distillers Jawbox Gin had a gin and ginger recipe on their website, my interest was piqued.
So these aren’t really Halloween brownies as they’re amazing all year round, however, I thought I’d fancy them up with some orange frosting and sprinkles in keeping with the season. I found this recipe in the back of a supermarket magazine about nine years ago and, after making a few tweaks, it’s been a solid (or squidgy) favourite every since.

It feels like ages ago now but this time last week, I was at the 14th annual Bolton Food and Drink Festival enjoying the sunshine with thousands of fellow foodies (400,000 to be precise). This four-day event is always firmly noted in my diary months in advance and boasts cookery demos from popular national and regional chefs.

When it comes to socialising, I’m an introvert and, although I love my friends and family dearly, I need to time alone to recharge, possibly more than most. Instead of feeling bored or lonely, I find great comfort in solitude and try to make time for myself on a regular basis.
Here are a few of my solo night in essentials.
